Day 1: Transfer from Balmaceda airport to the hostel (flight arrival at noon is recommended)
After the welcome at the Balmaceda airport, we began a 5-hour trip along the Carretera Austral heading south, passing through valleys, forests, mountains and the shore of the enormous General Carrera Lake. Arrival at the lodge, reception and dinner at Mallin Colorado Ecolodge.
Day 2: Kayak through the Marble Caverns and Tranquilo River. Visit to the Exploradores glacier.
The excursion begins one hour north of the lodge. We will take the kayaks in Puerto Tranquilo next to General Carrera Lake, where you can enjoy the famous marble rock formations above the calypso waters of the lake. You can see how the stone has been eroded by the movement of water and wind over millions of years, building these incredible formations on the shore of the lake. Today you will have a box lunch outside and continue to Lake Tranquilo to kayak at a smaller spot.
Day 3 to Day 6: Baker River Kayak Expedition, Sleeping in Tents Along the River, great connection with the locals.
Today we begin a kayak descent down the Baker River. This expedition is designed for people who feel comfortable in a dynamic, aquatic environment. That is, you must know how to swim and be able to let yourself be rocked and carried by the largest flow of water in Chile and Patagonia, without considering it an enemy or a threat, but rather family, generous and friendly.
This trip is designed for those in good physical condition. The mighty Baker River will do the work of carrying you and your guide will be in charge of the adventure. To paddle this river in a kayak you will need some techniques, but not necessarily before you arrive. During the first day you will learn everything necessary for basic maneuvers and rescue, as well as understand the behavior of water. This will give you the confidence you need to know you are in professional hands and paddle safely on a calm, friendly river.
During the kayak trip you will sleep in tents in local homes and properties along the lake shore. They are gaucho lands, very remote and disconnected, where you can share dinner with them and get to know their lifestyle in Aysén.
Day 6: Sleep at Hostal Caleta Tortel.
Today you will finish your kayak trip and arrive at Caleta Tortel, an incredible logging and fishing town with no streets or cars. Instead, a hundred Cypress wood paths will allow you to walk along the edge of the town and into its native, humid forest. Accommodation and dinner in a small, cozy hostel.
Day 7: Kayak in Caleta Tortel and surroundings.
Caleta Tortel is the town where the Baker River flows out. It meets the Pacific Ocean, so you will have the opportunity to kayak in the nearby fjords of southern Chile. You can also visit the Island of the Dead and its mysterious history. Dinner and overnight at Tortel.
Day 8: Return to Mallin Colorado along the Austral Sur highway
We will visit Cochrane and arrive at Mallin Colorado for dinner and accommodation.
Day 9: Free day to walk/ride/read at Mallin Colorado Ecolodge.
Today you can stay in ours lodge and rest after a great kayaking adventure. If you wish, there are possibilities to go hiking on our trails among native forests with incredible views, or go horseback riding. You can also walk to the beach and experience the most powerful beauty in a secluded place with incredible views.
Day 10: Return driving to Balmaceda airport.
End of our services.
